There is still lack of awareness and understanding about autism especially among parents and the young generation. However, this can change if we engage in dialogues and activities on autism.

Themed “Autism Is Not A Tragedy, Ignorance Is”, the International Seminar on Autism 2014 will bring together teachers, lecturers, researchers, professionals, government officials, service providers, NGOs, parents and communities in the area of autism to discuss and deliberate on the latest updates and best practices in relation to autism. 

The Seminar will be a platform for discussion on topics such as Epidemiology of Autism, State of Autism – Updates on the latest in autism science and early detection, DSM-V and effect on diagnosis and intervention and State of art-early intervention strategies in autism which will be delivered and articulated in four Plenary Sessions and a few Special Parallel Sessions.

The Seminar will also see the participation of renowned international and local experts in autism such as Eric Fombonne, MD of McGill University, Dr. Andy Shih, Vice President of Scientific Affairs, Autism Speaks and Prof. Dr. Connie Kasari from University of California, LA. 

Among the local speakers are Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Saat Baki, Universiti Industri Selangor (UNISEL), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raja Juanita Raja Lope, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Dr.Ranjini S.Sivanesom Developmental Paediatrician, Institute of Paediatrics, Hospital Kuala Lumpur(HKL) and Jochebed Isaacs of Early Autism Project (EAP) Malaysia.

The International Seminar on Autism 2014 will be officiated by YABhg. Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia and also the patron of PERMATA.

It is expected 800 participants including 300 international guests and 500 local guests will attend this international seminar. Also invited are the wives of foreign leaders from 72 countries.
