The National Zoo covers 110 acres of land and is located only 5km from the city of Kuala Lumpur. Over the years, it has been transformed into an open concept zoo with over 90% of its animals kept in spacious exhibits.
The zoo is managed by the Malaysian Zoological Society, a non-governmental organisation established to create the first local zoo for the nation. Zoo Negara was officially opened in 1963 and has matured into a reputable zoo around the world. It has over 5000 animals from 476 species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
Among the attractions are the Insect Zoo, Amphibian World, Hornbill Centre, Reptile House, Malaysian Elephants, Lake Birds, Bird Aviary, Nocturnal Exhibits, Australian Plains, Humboldt Penguin, Children’s World, Bear Complex, Savannah Walk, Hippopotamus, Mammal Kingdom, Tunku Abdul Rahman Aquarium, Cat Walk and the Ape Centre.
Enjoy the multi-animal show featuring sea lions, macaques and macaws at 11am and 3pm daily (Fri: 3.30pm).
