Your holiday in Sarawak will be incomplete without a visit to the longhouse. This is where you can observe the unique way of life of the aborigines in Sarawak, mainly the Iban, Budayuh and Orang Ulu.
Elaborate dances and welcoming rituals (in fill traditional costume) are usually arranged via organised tour groups.
Visitors are offered tuak (rice wine) and entertained with traditional music and dancing. Some tours also arrange for visitors for a traditional longhouse dinner and accommodate on the ruai (covered verandah), while others have guest houses nearby.
Visitors who stay more than one night better get to experience Iban culture with visits to paddy fields and pepper gardens, and learning how the Iban makes use of the rainforest for all of their everyday needs.
The Iban longhouses are mostly located along the Skrang River, the Lemanak River, Batang Ai, and the middle Rajang River.
